South Africa
|
South Africa is a launching pad for ministry into various sub-Saharan countries including Zambia and Swaziland. Ministry in Africa is unlimited due to the overwhelming poverty, increased presence of refugees and lack of access to the Gospel message. From medical clinics and construction to discipleship and food distribution, teams can find numerous opportunities to share the Good News.

Language
|
The primary language spoken in South Africa is Zula. However, the Afrikaan language is increasing in popularity as the newest language in the world. The percentage of languages spoken is as follows: IsiZulu 23.8%, IsiXhosa 17.6%, Afrikaans 13.3%, Sepedi 9.4%, English 8.2%, Setswana 8.2%, Sesotho 7.9%, Xitsonga 4.4%, other 7.2%.

Transportation/Lodging
|
All transportation will be secured by One Way Ministries. We will fly out of the Birmingham, Alabama airport (BHM) to Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB).
While in South Africa, we will be staying in various locations depending on the worksite. Some teams may stay in homes in townships while others may stay at retreat centers. Some trips require living in the townships with locals in rural situations. Transportation generally comes in the form of vans while in country..

Climate |
The weather in Africa is seasonal and is based on opposite seasons from the US (because Africa is in the Southern Hemisphere). The weather in the winter (June, July, August) can be extremely cold (in the 20’s) and even snowed earlier this year. Summer (January, February, March) brings heat in the 90’s (which, in turn, brings out the insects). Dressing in layers is essential to conditions in Africa. |
Cost
|
A non-refundable $500 deposit is required for each person committing to a trip to Africa. The cost for each week-long trip to Africa is $3500 per person. Two-week trips are $4250. These prices include lodging, food, and transportation.
